One-Handed
Luminous Movement’s One Handed Weapons class is a survey course, an introduction to medieval and Renaissance weaponry of all sorts. This class will often focus on one weapon or martial system, such as German Langesmesser, for a five to six week period before moving on to a new subject, allowing us to explore a wide range of historical sources while constantly refining our fencing practice.
Our Family Class is a fun, active way for kids and parents to swing lightsabers, learn the ways of the space wizard, and bond through movement and play. Through organized instruction and imagination, families explore the basics of fencing, spinning, and flow. Over time, students build coordination, confidence, and a shared skillset they can continue to enjoy together, in class and at home.
The goal of the beginner’s class is to introduce new students to the use of the medieval longsword, including its form, some brief history, and its use in both a historical and modern competitive context. By the end of the class, students should be ready and feel ready to participate in the weekly Intermediate Class and light sparring or freeplay.

This class focuses on the competitive format of Lightfencing known as US Lightfencing, or USLF. In this class we will train with the rules and requirements of this organization. This class will give students the skills to compete in competitions or just fence against our friends for fun using lightsabers.
This is the format recognized by the French Fencing Federation and could one day find itself in the olympics.

As Europe transitioned out of the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance a new form of fencing began to develop, accompanied by a highly specialized type of sword: the rapier. In Luminous Movement's Italian Rapier class you will learn the art of the rapier, particularly the methodology and martial philosophy of Salvatore Fabris, a 16th century fencing master to the Danish court.
